  Loyalty to Org and jah WT 9/1/01

  did anyone who received this wt ,notice that loyalty was only extended to the org, marriage mates and family 'who are believers' the rest of you moms and dads sisters and brothers,etc.

  you're out in the cold.. the article is titled,'what does it mean to be loyal?'....

  is this damage control?

  I found myself reading one particular point in that article over and over again just to see if I was reading it right...

  'Loyalty to God also includes loyalty to his organisation. Necessarily, over the years there have been corrections and adjustments to our understanding of certain scriptures. The fact is that no one is as spiritually well fed as we are'.

  Mmmmm, interesting, corrections and adjustments, could this be a veiled admittance that they have made mistakes or is this just wishful thinking on my part.... And why were these corrections and adjustments necessary anyway? Why were we misled in believing what was not true to begin with??!! New light? Bah!

  Mmmmm, interesting, no one is 'AS' spiritually well fed as we are, does that mean that they acknowledge that there are others spiritually well fed, just not as much??

  Is'nt it strange... when I was a JW I lapped up words like these, now I look at them with a clear head and can see how cleverly wording something can mislead you.

  Can you be DF'd for obesity?

  if jw's can be(or should i say are) df'd for smoking, why aren't people df'd for obesity.. it seems they say that you are violating your body and hurting it from smoking but i've never seen a person live over the age of 80 that was obese.

  just seems like being obese is worse than smoking.

  Cosmo - a bit belated perhaps, but a big welcome to the board here anyway. As you can see we can tend to be very opinionated people here, we certainly know our own minds.... You said

  Next time read a little carefully.

  Maybe your future posts will be a little clearer on what point you are trying to make, your original post seemed to me, and by all accounts others too, to be an attack on larger people, the point that you were trying to make about the way the society picks what is good and bad for you was maybe slightly obscured. When you are dealing with such sensitive issues it is so important not to offend people.

  I look forward to more of your posts and some lively discussions to come, welcome aboard. By the way, I am sorry to hear about your father, I know what it is like to lose a father, please accept my sympathies, no matter how long ago he passed away.

  if jw's can be(or should i say are) df'd for smoking, why aren't people df'd for obesity.. it seems they say that you are violating your body and hurting it from smoking but i've never seen a person live over the age of 80 that was obese.

  I have no objections to sitting next to a fat person but I certainly would have an objection to sitting next to a person who was smoking... you cant catch 'fat' from people but there is a lot of evidence that you can get lung cancer from passive smoking....

  Also please bear in mind that there are a lot of medical conditions that can cause a large weight gain, even something as simple as steroids or hyperthyroidism, obesity is not necessarily always self inflicted. I have known people in the course of my work who being disabled or injured in some way find it very hard to excercise and lose any weight.

  Please bear this in mind, smoking is a self inflicted addiction, obesity sometimes can not be so easily prevented.

  What would you have people be disfellowshipped for next.... biting their fingernails, stammering, acne???????

  To smoke is each persons individual choice, I have no problem with that, what I do have a problem with is the judgemental attitude of some people - that person is fat therefore he must be greedy.

  By the way, feel free to come and work alongside me in the hospital one day and see the effects of smoking.... yes, some smokers may live past 80 but if you could see them fighting for their every breath and coughing their lungs up you would maybe agree that being overweight is a more appealing option....

  And I feel that you should keep your uneccessary insults to yourself ... you shouldnt talk like that to a lady, Free2BeMe that is. Or are you an elder???

  heres a few ideas to start us off......... little houses = kingdom halls.

  big hotels = assembly halls.

  I think for me I have regained my tolerance, being a JW makes you very prejudiced - whether it be over issues such as sexuality, religion, politics or morals. I hope that now I am back to the way I was before I was indoctrinated, I feel that everyone has a right to live the way they choose, as long as they are not hurting anyone. And who are we to judge and say that we know better? I used to hate being told who I could approve of and who I should look at with disgust - I like to make my own mind up and my own decisions, why should I be made to feel that my own judgement was lacking??

  Heres a few ideas to start us off........

  Little Houses = Kingdom Halls
  Big Hotels = Assembly Halls

  Chance cards = Personal Record Cards
  Community Chest = Donation Boxes

  Street Names = Branch Offices or Territories?

  And perhaps a Get Out of Bethel Free Card??

  And how about suggestions for Chance cards...

  'You have won a beauty pageant... shame on you... go back 2 spaces'.
  'You have been accepted into Bethel... go forward 3 spaces'.
  'You missed your assignment... pay fine of $100'.
  'You were caught in possesssion of Crisis of Conscience - Go directly to Jail, do not pass the bread and wine, do not collect your magazines'

  And what about when you land on a rival KH? Do you pay a hefty contibution to the world wide fund??

  Any ideas for the little counters, and what would you use instead of a dice - cant have chance involved can we now??

  Now I'm going to be childish.... and stick my tongue out at sf...

  sf - I understand childish behaviour, after all I have 3 little darlings under the age of 11 myself. So I know when to make allowances for their misuse of words, their mixing up of grammar and their less than adult behaviour. I do not have a problem with children and the fact that they have not yet developed the capacity to interact with adults on their level.

  What I do have a problem with is the manner in which Fredhall tends to talk to us, it strikes me as inappropriate and sadly lacking, I expect that sort of level of intelligence from children but not from those that profess to being adult and mix in adult circles discussing adult things.

  By the way, I would never think that children were 'lacking', and I would certainly not label them, I treasure my children and value them for who they are, just children, adults in training!

  toddy - I would have to agree with your last comment, I noticed that a lot of people in my old congregation had suffered with depression at some time, many were even on medication. What ever happened to relying on Jehovah?! The ones in the congregation that were studying at the time I left all had problems of one kind or another, one was going through a divorce and was struggling, one was mentally ill, another was depressed because of family problems, yet another was a former paedophile, yes, honestly.

  The hope and promises of the religion appeal to those who have not much hope anywhere else. It fills them with false expectations and puts dreams in their heads that cannot possibly come true. I know from experience that when JWs are out on the ministry and a depressed or needy person opens the door then they see it as a ripe opportunity to reel them in to their way of thinking. They see their vulnerabilities and play on them, it may come across as sincerity and a caring attitude but all that JW wants is a bible study, a chance to convert someone. Unfortunately if that person does become a member of the organisation he is merely swapping one set of problems for another, like jumping from the frying pan into the fire. And his initial problems may still remain.
